I like to be able to run the the project I’m working on by hitting a key-command, so I can make a tweak and then quickly re-compile. From my Flash IDE days, I’m partial to Ctrl-Enter.

This is one of the more useful features in Eclipse and every time I re-install or set up a new machine, I forget how to enable it.. so hopefully this will help others as well as my future self the next time I install Eclipse:

To enable “Run Last Launched”
In Eclipse 3.4, if you go to the “Run” menu, the first item is “Run”. If you’re working in FDT, this option isn’t so great because it will compile the class your currently working on (not the Main document class of your project). You can change this by going to “Window > Preferences > Run/Debug > Launching”. Then down at the bottom of the page, under “Launch Operation”, select “Always launch the previously launched application”.

When you open Eclipse, just be sure to first Run the project you are working on “Run > Run Configurations”. Select your run profile and Run it. Now, when you open the “Run” menu, you’ll see “Run Last Launched” as the first item. Eclipse will remember the last project launched even after you quit.

To map a key command to “Run Last Launched”
Go to “Window > Preferences > General > Keys”.
Then just search for “Run Last Launched”, select it and click “Unbind Command”. Update: in later versions of Eclipse/FDT, the binding is named “Run”.
Then, with the item still selected, click on the text field next to “Binding” and press the key command combo you want to use.

    Hi!

I do not use the plug-in version of FDT but the preinstalled FDT application. In this version (3.1.1.1026) the “Always launch the previously launched application” option works fine when I click on either of the run or the debug toolbar icons.

My problem is, that there is no “un Last Launched” option in the Keys prefs. It drives me crazy…

    Anyone any idea?

    Thanx for tip anyway!

    Szabesz,

I just downloaded the trial version of FDT. It looks similar: go to Windows > Prefs. Click on the + next to Run/Debug and then click on Launching. In the right-hand panel, you should see the option “Launch Operation” – select “Always launch the previously launched applications” – hope that helps.
